Horse Racing Cards – Graded Stakes Sneak Peek, Week Ending Jan.10
We had several horse racing cards last weekend that contained Kentucky Derby prep races. There are no prep races on the calendar until next weekend; which is when we have the Lecomte; but there are still a few graded stakes races to take a quick look at. As always; we will be simply taking a sneak peek at what is to come this weekend, with a full preview of all the big races coming your way on Saturday morning. All told; there are four graded stakes races on tap over the next couple of days; including one all the way over in Japan, so let’s get into those horse racing cards now.
The bulk of the graded stakes action takes place on Saturday; with three races split between Santa Anita and Gulfstream Park. There are a pair of turf races in the mix; the first of which is the Tropical Turf Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream.
This race will have 9 horses vying for a $100,000 purse over a mile on the turf. A good field for this one.
Also, on Saturday; we have a pair of graded stakes races at Santa Anita; with one on the dirt and the other on the turf. These races will be run back-to-back, starting with the La Canada Stakes (G3). This one will go 1 1/16 mile over the dirt; and will have 7 horses racing for a very nice $200,000 purse. The second stakes race at Santa Anita; is the Las Cienegas Stakes (G#), with that one set to go 6F over the turf. With one entry already scratched, the field for this race is down to 6.
The final graded stakes race of the weekend will be held over in Kyoto, Japan. The Shinzan Kinen (G3) will have a field of 10; going a mile over the turf as they duke it out for a very nice purse of $780,000.
Early tomorrow, we will have further details on each of the races mentioned above, including a breakdown of the favorites and all the odds; courtesy of JazzSports.ag
