WEEKEND GRADED STAKES

Horse Racing Cards – Grade Stakes Races Preview Week Ending Jan. 10

After a busy week last weekend, when we had three races that counted toward the Road to the Kentucky Derby; things slow down a little this weekend; there are still horse racing cards that have weekend graded stakes races on the schedule, but it’s still a relatively quiet week. There are four weekend graded stakes races set to go between Saturday and Sunday; including a huge race over in Japan. Yesterday, we provided you with a brief sneak peek of those four races; but today we are going to dig a little deeper and take a look at some of the favorites.

Saturday

Gulfstream Park Race 10 – Tropical Turf Stakes (G3) 1 Mile Turf – $100,000

There is a solid field of 9 horses set to go in the Grade 3 Tropical Turf Stakes at Gulfstream Park. This one is for 4yo and up, and we have a clear favorite in the morning line. That would be Analyze it, who will break from the #6 stall. He is in as a 2/1 favorite, with the next closest horse being Admission Office at 7/2.

Santa Anita Race 8 – La Canada Stakes (G3) 1 1/16 Mile Dirt – $200,000

This is the first of back-to-back weekend graded stakes races at Santa Anita on Saturday afternoon. There are 7 horses entered into the La Canada Stakes; with two of them looking like favorites in the morning line. We have Fighting Mad in as the 9/5 favorite; closely followed by Hard Not To Love out of Ontario at 2/1.

Santa Anita Race 9 – Las Cienegas Stakes (G3) 6F Turf – $100,000

Since Santa Anita opened up for the Winter/Spring meet; their horse racing cards have been filled with graded stakes races, and this week is no exception. This is the second of two big races on the Saturday card and it will now be a 6-horse race after Acting Out became an early scratch. Jolie Olimpica is in at 8/5 while Oleksandra is in at 9/5 in the morning line.

Sunday

Chukyo, Japan Race 11 – Shinzan Kinen (G3) 1 Mile Turf – $780,000

The richest race of the weekend will take place over in Japan. This one is set for 3:45 PM local time, which translates to 1:45 AM EST if you plan on wagering. It’s a big field of 15 set to go on Sunday; but at the time of writing; the Japan Racing Association does not have odds listed.
