BREEDERS’ CUP CLASSIC: BETTING ODDS UPDATE

The Breeders’ Cup Classic is one of the most important races in deciding the winner of the Eclipse Award for Horse of the Year. In 2020, there was no Triple Crown winner, and no horse has emerged as “the” superstar to this point. So when the 37th Breeders’ Cup Classic takes place on November 7, the stakes will be even higher than they would be in a typical year.

The Grade I race has a $6 million purse that has drawn a number of terrific three-year-old horses, along with older horses with significant accomplishments. Run over 1 ¼ miles on dirt, this race will bring the 14-event World Championships to a close. You can catch the broadcast on NBC, with the post time set at 5:13 p.m. Eastern time.

Online Horse Betting: Breeders’ Cup Classic Update

Improbable looks to be the likely horse betting favorite at post time, thanks to three straight wins in Grade I stakes. He beat Higher Power by 3 ¼ lengths at the Hollywood Gold Cup in June. He then beat Tom’s D’Etat and By My Standards at the Whitney Stakes in August, winning by two lengths. At the Awesome Again Stakes, he beat Maximum Security by 4 ½ lengths. He posted 120 Equibase Speed Figures in the Whitney and Awesome Again, which is better than any of the three-year-old winners in Triple Crown races.

There were questions about Improbable’s stamina in races longer than 1 1/8 miles, but his win at the Gold Cup (1 ¼ miles) and his solid finishes in wins at the Whitney and Awesome Again (both 1 1/8 miles) have answered those. His jockey will be Irad Ortiz Jr, who rode Vino Rosso to a Breeders’ Cup Classic win a year ago. His plan will likely be to keep Improbable close to the lead and then make a run after the turn into the homestretch.
