HORSE RACING ODDS: One of the more exciting races in the 14-event Breeders’ Cup Championships this coming weekend is the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, set for Saturday, November 6. Jackie’s Warrior has emerged as the favorite, with four wins in four career starts. However, he’s not offering a ton of value. So as you fill out your top three money picks, look a little bit further down the odds sheet.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Preview
Jackie’s Warrior naturally gets out at a quick pace, so if he loses, it will happen because he ran out of gas early and falls prey to a stalker who ends up turning up the gas down the stretch.
Calibrate is an interesting sleeper. He ran in the Breeders’ Futurity (Grade I), got off to a flat start and finished 13 ¼ lengths back, in sixth place. The fact that trainer Steven Asmussen wants to enter him here may indicate that he has seen something in the morning workouts that suggests a different outcome. He did post a 97 TimeformUS Speed Figure in his maiden on August 15, winning by 4 ½ lengths at Saratoga.
Classier comes from Bob Baffert’s stable, and he won his maiden at Santa Anita by four lengths, posting a 99 TimeformUS figure, which would make him very competitive on Saturday. But can he prosper on a longer course with two runs?
Essential Quality has two wins in two starts, highlighted by a 3 ¼-length win at the Breeders’ Futurity. He pressed Upstriker in the early going and then pulled away from the rest of the field down the stretch. He posted a 101 TimeformUS figure, which is competitive – but if we remember that Jackie’s Warrior’s last figure was a 117, we see that Essential Quality will need to make the best of his tactical speed. He’s definitely an interesting pick in the trifecta or superfecta.
