Santa Anita Released Winter/Spring Stakes Schedule

For those looking for horse tips, Nashville, Independence Hall, Collusion Illusion and Charlatan are four horses getting early looks for the Malibu Stakes, which should be one of the best races at the end of 2020. In addition to the Grade I events, three other stakes are set for December 26. The Mathis Brothers Mile (Grade II turf), the San Antonio Stakes (Grade II), both with $200,000 purses, and the Lady of Shamrock Stakes, with a $75,000 purse.

Another big day on the Santa Anita Park schedule will be March 6. On that day, the Santa Anita Handicap (Grade I) and the Frank E. Kilroe Mile (Grade I Turf) will each offer $400,000 purses. That same day, the San Felipe Stakes, a Grade II event with a $300,000 purse that is one of the most significant Kentucky Derby prep races on the American horse racing calendar, will take place. The $200,000 San Carlos Stakes (Grade II) and the $75,000 China Doll Stakes will round out that day’s schedule.

On March 13, the Beholder Mile (Grade I) will offer a $300,000 purse for mares and fillies. The San Simeon Stake (Grade III Turf), with a $100,000 purse, will run from the newly installed turf chute over six furlongs.

On April 3, Santa Anita Park will feature the $750,000 Santa Anita Derby, a Grade I race that has seen 18 Kentucky Derby winners win there first. The $400,000 Santa Anita Oaks (Grade II) and two stakes for California-bred horses, the $200,000 Evening Jewel Stakes and the $200,000 Echo Eddie Stakes, are both set for that day.

May 31 will bring the $300,000 Hollywood Gold Cup (Grade I), along with the $300,000 Gamely and the $300,000 Shoemaker Mile, both Grade I events on the turf. The season will wrap on June 19 and 20, with the San Juan Capistrano Stakes (Grade III, 1 ¾ miles on the turf) and the American Stakes (Grade III, one mile on the turf) to bring the season to a close.
