Online Betting: COUNTDOWN TO BREEDERS’ CUP: AUTHENTIC BIO

If you watched the 2020 Kentucky Derby online betting, then you saw Authentic pull off the upset win over Tiz the Law. Authentic’s win wasn’t a fluke, by any means; he was also the winner of the Sham Stakes, San Felipe Stakes and Haskell Stakes. He would have been an intriguing contender for the Triple Crown, but he had to be scratched from the Belmont Stakes (the first Triple Crown leg this year due to COVID-19 rescheduling) due to a minor foot injury.

As we look at Breeders’ Cup Classic picks, let’s dive in closer with a look at Authentic’s background, but before we do that, check out some of the latest Breeders’ Cup betting odds, courtesy of online betting hub JAZZSports.ag.

Breeders’ Cup Bio: Authentic

Authentic was one of the tenth foal crop sired by Into Mischief, winner of the Los Alamitos Futurity and well known as a sire for sprinters, including Covfefe, who won an Eclipse Award. Authentic’s dam, Flawless, won her debut by 13 ¼ lengths but injured a tendon in her second race, bringing her career to a premature end. Authentic is the third winner that Flawless has produced, out of just four foals so far. His trainer throughout his racing career has been the estimable Bob Baffert.

Authentic won his first start, on November 9, 2019, in a maiden special weight race at Del Mar, covering 5 ½ furlongs. He stalked the early leader and then took the read in the stretch, winning by 1 ½ lengths.

Authentic’s three-year-old season began with a 7 ¾-length win at the Sham Stakes. His first race against elite competition was the San Felipe Stakes, where he pulled into an early lead and held on to win by 2 ¼ lengths, gaining 50 points toward Kentucky Derby qualification. At the Kentucky Derby, he entered as the third online betting choice because of questions about his stamina but ended up winning. The Preakness Stakes was not as successful for him; despite entering as the favorite, he took a bump at the start from Max Player but took an early lead. Swiss Skydiver pulled into the lead at the last turn, and she prevailed over Authentic by a neck.

Next up for Authentic is the Breeders’ Cup Classic, set for November 7 at Keeneland Race Course. His Kentucky Derby win earned him an automatic entry into a field that will contain the top horses in the world.
